Friendship Centre is a place for people of all ages. A place where you can relax in a friendly, safe atmosphere. A great place for newcomers to Naracoorte to come and meet the locals. Activities range from crafts, board games or bringing your own activity.

The ‘Think Spot” presented each week is a time to reflect on aspects of life and Christian principles for living. Pastor John Stayte is available to talk things over if asked to do so. Morning tea is provided. A door donation helps with expenses. Friendship Centre is facilitated by a faithful, dedicated committee.

As an outreach, Friendship Centre commenced during the ministry of Grant and Julie Simpson in May 1987. Throughout its history, Friendship Centre participants have knitted, crocheted, or sewn thousands of items of clothing and blankets which are forwarded to wherever needed—locally or overseas.

Churches of Christ CareWorks also receive blankets and clothing to be distributed to needy families and homeless people. Other charitable organisations are supported including the local Pastoral Care Workers, the Cancer Council of South Australia, the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Christmas Boxes Appeal, and the Global Mission Partners Great Gifts— Real Impact Christmas Appeal.

In 2020, when meetings were not held due to the Coronavirus isolation period, “Keeping in Touch” was developed to maintain contact with the Friendship Centre Community. Letters were compiled and distributed to all participants on a fortnightly basis, either hand delivered, posted or by email. These contained a brief “Think Spot”, encouraging notes, poems, jokes and puzzles. Even after the return to regular weekly meetings, these letters have continued, by request, and now extend to some past participants, shut-ins and church folk. In all, 70 people receive a copy, with some being forwarded on to friends and family members. It has become a ministry within the ministry of Friendship Centre. God has guided and blessed the ministry of Friendship Centre in the past. May he continue to do so in the future, to His honour and glory.: Phone Ps John Stayte 0437 190 208 or Betty Francis 0459 622 288.
